SONOMAMMOGRAPHY Service

Sonomammography, also known as breast ultrasound, is a non-invasive imaging technique used to examine the breast tissue. It uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of the internal structures of the breast, helping detect abnormalities like lumps, cysts, and tumors. This diagnostic tool is often used alongside mammography to provide a clearer and more detailed view of breast tissue, especially in women with dense breasts.

Applications of Sonomammography :

  • Breast Cancer Screening and Diagnosis:

    • Sonomammography is often used as a supplementary tool in breast cancer diagnosis, particularly for evaluating lumps or masses that are not clearly visible on mammography.
    • It is also useful in breast cancer screening for women who have dense breasts, as dense tissue can obscure tumors on standard mammograms.
  • Evaluation of Breast Implants:

    • Sonomammography can be used to assess breast implants for rupture or other complications.
    • It can also evaluate breast tissue around implants for lumps or abnormalities.
  • Monitoring of Known Benign Conditions:

    • It is often used to monitor known benign conditions like fibroadenomas or cysts, to ensure they do not change or become problematic over time.
  • Post-Surgical or Post-Treatment Follow-Up:

    • Women who have undergone breast surgery or treatment for breast cancer may undergo sonomammography as part of their follow-up care to monitor for any recurrence or changes in the breast tissue.
